Reflective journal for Critical contexts

Since becoming a student of Digital media of the University of Huddersfield, I know I have to learn new design skills. The media today are changing and they are becoming more modern technology. So in our new project, I want to research on a topic which is developed in the present day and will continue in the future. While other students about fashion, materials, furniture, 3D technology, my professional focus on areas such as communication, mainly used on the computer or on the internet. The topic our ​​group chosen for this study is on the website for children.

My group consists of three members, including: 1 Iranian students named Azadeh called AZI, a little girl Taiwanese name is Sharon and I the only guy in the group. All three of us are learning about digital media, but each person has a different concern as well as the strength of the different arrays. For example, Sharon like 3D and AZI studies are interest for audio and audio processing. Personally, I like to do about motion and animation. I'm learning After Effects. We need to choose a topic suitable for both 3 and meet the requirements of the teacher. Our team assigned to the members go home and think of ideas for presentations. And finally, we selected research with regards to websites for children.

 After choosing the brief, our group split threads into the parts to each member of the self-study. I chose to study the design of websites for children based on their age. 

Website design and media related products for children opens a lot of opportunities for Web designers. Starting businesses and schools, as well as parents and students, this opportunity will help the designer to creative products to attract children. The types of work range from interface designs for video games to websites. This moment is the time for children to many sites, dense by colors and typography Figure. Fortunately, the children's market there are many types of products is the result of improvements in recent years. Most sites directed at children (or children and adults) account allows the realization of basic rights of children on site.


Both children and teenagers demonstrate that they liked very much the same as typical design that adults like, including clarity and rich content. At the same time, the children seemed to enjoy the larger part of the characteristic function and compelling stories. The website design must be friendly with children and teenagers and the designer should consider before embarking on the work that can help the designer to promote their products to children, parents, or those who are interested.


The sites will be divided into three groups. Group 1 is the sites for children from 3 to 6 years old. Group 2 is for children from 7 to 12 years old and the third group for children from 13 to 16 years old. At each age, children have different development of thinking and perceive things and life. The websites must be based on the characteristics and changes of the age group that it is turning to make the designs accordingly. That is why the research of graphic design for children is extremely important and must be satisfactory investment.

The guidelines are based on studies of Usability.gov said adults also say simple words like children. Of course it will be difficult to attract a large number of kids access to verbal sites, layout, navigation or complex typhography. At the most basic level, the language is so refined and dense paragraphs that will turn the site into a gallery of pictures, because the longer passage, the lower the output sold because most children not grasp the content of the paragraph. This type of approach is not necessary because more people are willing to read the text more concise and search for information in the future as well.

Based on the research in the adolescent age group, the interaction between the functionality of the site (such as forums, small games, polls, ranking systems, demonstrates the 3D interface) verychildren appreciate because we can build links and encourage community participation. Blocking the function does not make the site more effective because kids will soon realize the distance and re-evaluate the site, ignoring any initial inspiration.


In summary, all the things of the websites for children give answers to two major questions. There are: “How can we become critical?” and “What are the implications for your field of research?”  Although the websites for children there are many good and bad features, we cannot deny its tremendous influence not only with today's life and also for the future of this world.
